Emerson earns an ‘A’ in social media

When a blog called BostInnovation recently named the Boston-area colleges that have the most Twitter clout, it reported a surprising result: Emerson College came in second, right after Harvard University.

How did a small college like Emerson climb its way to the near-peak of local higher-education social media? From the post: “Many people outside of the Emerson community were surprised that one of the Boston area’s smaller schools was in second place, but in fact, at the time of this writing, Emerson College’s Twitter account (@EmersonCollege) had a very respectable Klout [a Twitter ranking service] score of 60. Emerson is known for communications.”

The Emerson College Twitter feed is managed by Rhea Becker from Emerson’s Office of Communications and Marketing, with assistance and strategic development from Allison Teixeira in the Office of Communications and Marketing and Mike Petroff from Emerson’s Office of Enrollment.

Emerson also has presences on Facebook, Flickr, and YouTube.

The Boston Innovation blog recently posted two more stories celebrating Emerson’s pre-eminence in social media: a story about the college's real-time engagement with its students on social media, and a feature on “5 Must-Follow Social Media Students from Emerson College.” The students are: Zachary Cole ’11, Abbey Niezgoda ’11, Matt Karolian ’10, Max Silver ’10, and Cassidy Quinn Brettler ’11.
