Oscar winners are announced

“The Oscars are Emerson’s Super Bowl!” That’s the sentiment one Emersonian tweeted last night during the 83rd Annual Academy Awards, as the Emerson community came together both online and off to celebrate the awards show and the Emersonians who were a part of it.

The Office of Communications and Marketing hosted an Emerson Online Watch Party via social media where students, alumni, faculty, staff, and others shared, via Twitter, their opinions, congratulations, and photos from the red carpet as well as from Emerson viewing parties. In addition, nearly 600 comments were posted to the #ECOscars hashtag during the televised ceremony.

A crew of Emerson journalism students traveled to Los Angeles to report from the red carpet, interviewing the likes of Tom Sherak, president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and many others.

The following are a few of the Emerson-related Oscar results:

  • Actors in The Fighter, produced by Dorothy Aufiero ’80, won Best Actor in a Supporting Role and Best Actress in a Supporting Role.
  • Emerson parent Rick Baker won the award for best makeup in The Wolfman.
  • Trustee, Emerson parent, and president of Disney Music Chris Montan got a shout-out during the ceremony when Toy Story 3 won the award for Best Original Song  (“We Belong Together” by Randy Newman).
