Communication Studies faculty involved with a number of scholarly journals

Multiple faculty members in the Department of Communication Studies are currently serving as editors or editorial board members for many well-respected journals.

Professor Phillip Glenn was asked to guest edit, along with Lawrence Susskind, the April 2010 issue of the Negotiation Journal. The Negotiation Journal is a multidisciplinary international journal devoted to the publication of works that advance the theory, analysis, practice, and instruction of negotiation and dispute resolution.

Associate Professor Sam Binkley is co-editor of Foucault Studies, a journal devoted to the work of French philosopher Michel Foucault. The journal aims to provide a forum for a discussion of Foucault that goes beyond received orthodoxies.

Associate Professor J. Gregory Payne has edited the American Behavioral Scientist’s campaign edition for every presidential election since 1988. He is also on the journal’s advisory board. The American Behavioral Scientist provides in-depth perspectives on contemporary topics throughout the social and behavioral sciences.

Department Chair and Professor Richard West is guest editor of the Journal of Family Communication and serves on eight editorial boards. The Journal of Family Communication publishes research on all aspects of communication in families, to include communication in family systems, communication in family relationships, and families managing communication with social systems.

“Over the years, a spirit of scholarly integrity has permeated a number of faculty in Communication Studies,” said West. “I believe that in addition to great teaching, one benchmark of an invested professor in the social sciences is his/her ability to be a leader in the research community. Clearly, faculty in the department have risen to this level, and our students are the direct beneficiaries of such engagement.”
