Artist Reception: ‘Spacetime (x, y, z + t)’

January 22 @ 5:00 pm - 7:30 pm
Media Art Gallery, 25 Avery Street
Boston, MA 02111 United States

Emerson Contemporary proudly presents Spacetime (x, y, x + t), a multi-dimensional exhibition that features experimental works by regional and international artists: Katherine Mitchell DiRico (U.S.), Monika Grzymala (Germany), Nicole L’Huillier (Chile), Zsuzsanna Szegedi (Hungary), and Sarah Trahan (U.S.). Curated by Dr. Leonie Bradbury, the exhibition features digital projections, 3D printed objects, inkjet prints, virtual reality drawings, video, site specific light installation, and a dancing robot.

In putting together this exhibition, Bradbury considered how our perceptions are challenged and consequently change when artists include a durational element into an otherwise object-based artistic practice. Additionally, Spacetime includes both subtle and dramatic sonic elements that, when combined with drastic scale shifts of the various installations, contribute to a compelling immersive exhibition experience.

The exhibition opens January 22 with an artists’ reception and runs through March 15. Emerson’s Media Art Gallery  is open Wednesday through Sunday, from 12:00-7:00 pm. The exhibition and related programming are free and open to the public.

Piano Row Challenge: Bigger and Better (Spring Edition)

January 22 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

In a building-wide game of bigger or better, we challenge you to barter from a paper clip to an object of bigger or better value. The rules are simple… (but not really because there are a lot of words below)On Wednesday, Jan. 22 starting at 6 p.m., Piano Row Resident Assistants will be traveling around the Piano Row Residence Hall in small groups/teams knocking suite to suite in hopes of (introducing themselves to you and you to them) trading their item for something either BIGGER (in size) or better (in quality). Each team/group will begin with a paperclip and will continue attempting to make trades until 8 p.m. (or if they have successfully knocked on every suite in the building! After 8 p.m. strikes, the RAs will compare who the winners are in the two categories of BiGGER or BETTER. Who will win? Only time will tell… and your participation.Do you wish to join the challenge? If you do, you can. All you need to start is a standard paperclip, any color will do.If you accept the challenge and enroll yourself in the game. Please make sure to meet the RAs in the PROW Residence Director/Resident Assistant Office located in room 502 at 8 p.m. with your BIGGEST or BEST item. The RAs will ask for you and your partner/group members names to give you credit for your participation. To ensure there is no cheating, please take a photo of the two items that are being traded and the person you are bartering with for each swap. We want to see how you worked your way up! Remember, when trading items be sure it’s something you are willing to part with as you will not be getting it back at the end of the game.Hosted by: Piano RowAdditional Information can be found at: https://emconnect.emerson.edu/event/5400890
