Connecting Voices: Zine & Letter Writing Workshop

March 28 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm EDT

Let our love for the community turn to action. Join us to write love letters to ourselves & the community with Des Bennett and Black and Pink. Learn different zine making techniques and create your own zine exploring themes of identity, wholeness, healing, and belonging with Des; write letters to incarcerated queer and trans community members through Black and Pink’s pen pal program. Prompts and materials will be provided. Our altar will be up for people to make offerings to, pray, etc. throughout the evening. 
About the Artist(s)
Des Bennett (they/them) is a cultural worker whose practice emphasizes creativity and ethical storytelling as central to community care and liberation. They are a collage artist, zine maker, dramaturg, director, facilitator, and producer currently working as the Queer (Re)public Programs Manager at The Theater Offensive. Des is a co-leader of Gender Explosion, a coalition of trans* artists across the country empowering, advocating, and creating space for trans* artists in the performing arts sector, and has led trans* inclusion workshops in Boston and Broadway. Their recent directing work includes: The Interrobangers (Assoc. Dir., Company One), True Colors Troupe (TTO), we and other goddexxes (C1); Sunday Swings an Old-New Gospel (Huntington); Common Ground: Revisited (Ass. Dir., Hunt.); My Body Is a A Season (SpeakEasy); and Scenes From Metamorphoses (Northeastern University). Des holds a BA in Theater and a minor in Psychology from Northeastern University.
Black and Pink is an independent organization and open family working for abolition of the criminal punishment system, which disproportionately impacts lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and intersex people, as well as those living with HIV.
