Event Description:
Join Emerson College anthropologist and Assistant Professor Carol Ferrara for an in-depth discussion of her new book, Muslim and Catholic Experiences of National Belonging in France. This thought-provoking work explores the contrasting experiences of French Muslims and Catholics and examines how implicit biases within national identity—what Ferrara calls francité—influence inclusion and exclusion in French society. Over ten years of immersive research, Ferrara reveals how these dynamics shape community belonging, secularism, and national identity.
This is a unique opportunity to gain insight into the complex forces at play in modern France and to engage in a conversation that resonates globally. Whether you’re interested in diversity, identity, or French culture, Ferrara’s talk will leave you with new perspectives on the meaning of national belonging.
