Originally released by Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five on July 1, 1982, “The Message” was the birth of socially conscious hip hop. This presentation by Grandmaster Melle Mel and hip hop historian JayQuan will serve as an overview of Melle Mel’s impact on rap music in general, and socially concious rap specifically. With a Showcase of Hip Hop Culture, featuring artwork, live art by Kyd Goku, performances by The Floor Lords & Tufts Breaking Team, Termanology, and Oompa.
