Koin the Department of Marketing Communication and the Journalism Department as they host an exclusive film screening on Wednesday, September 18th from 6-7 p.m. in Emerson College’s Bright Family Screening Room. ‘Democracy in Debt: Sri Lanka Beyond the Headlines’ is a compelling 25-minute documentary by filmmaker and and Journalism professor Beena Sarwar. This film offers an intimate look into Sri Lanka’s 2022 economic crisis and its profound impact on both urban policymakers and rural communities. Sarwar skillfully juxtaposes the stories of residents from Dutuwewa, an ancient rice-farming village, with those of policymakers in Colombo, offering a unique narrative on the country’s path to recovery.  WATCH THE TRAILER HERE.
