In this session, Peter Krause, Associate Professor of Political Science at Boston College and Research Affiliate with the MIT Security Studies Program, will focus on the October 7 attacks, the Israeli invasion of Gaza, and the expansion of the conflict into Lebanon, Iran, and Yemen.
This discussion will look at these events through the lens of language and narrative. Professor Krause will explain the different ways that Palestinians and Israelis define, use, and react to terms like terrorism, intifada, genocide, and peace, and how those words impact both the ability to have constructive conversations and the possibilities for a better future for all.
Krause has published books on navigating field research, coercion in international politics, and the strategy and success of nationalist rebels in civil war. Forthcoming books examine how to have a constructive conversation about Israel and Palestine, and t which rebel groups take power after regime change.
