October 27, 2019 @ 11:00 am - 1:00 pm
|Recurring Event (See all)

One event on October 27, 2019 at 11:00 am

Emerson Dance Company is hosting a weekend of dance and conversation with Sarita Allen, an original member of the Alvin Ailey Repertory Ensemble. She began teaching her Revelations masterclass in 2010 and continues to share the Ailey technique nationwide. Emerson Dance Company will welcome Allen for a workshop, which will then be followed by a panel discussion. This event is open to all Emerson students.

The purpose of inviting Sarita Allen to Emerson College is to expose students to new styles of dance that are not typically accessible to them. Alvin Ailey’s work is a major contribution to American culture, and Ailey himself is posthumously remembered as a pioneer of programs promoting arts in education. Allen, handpicked by Ailey as a member of his original ensemble, brings with her experience performing at The Paris Opera, the Acropolis, the Great Pyramids of Giza, The Kennedy Center, and at the White House for two Presidents.

Masterclass:
Saturday, October 26 at 3:30 p.m.
Emerson College Paramount Studio
559 Washington St.

Panel:
Sunday, October 27 beginning at 11 a.m.
Emerson College Bill Bordy Theater
