Workshop: Un-Performing Black Masculinity Through Drama

Jamaican artist-in-residence Rayon McLean, artistic director of the award-winning QUILT ensemble, creates a space where the performance of Black masculinity becomes fragile through a call and response between social drama and creative performance.

Mirroring real-life images through creative performance, McLean’s techniques use participants’ imagination to create images of the self that challenge the very existence of gender and racial norms. Using scripts, lyrics, creative play, and performance, the workshop empowers participants to generate textured, nuanced, and varied versions of themselves. Let us play!
