WLP Scholar Series: Massiel Torres Ulloa

Join us for a Scholar Series event, “De Aviesa Condición: Urban Maroonage at the Ozama River,” with Massiel Torres Ulloa, a Dominican educator, translator, and writer based in Boston. She is currently pursuing her doctoral studies in Romance Languages and Literatures at Harvard University, where she specializes in the study of Caribbean resistance and revolutions.

In her writing practice, Massiel interweaves historical and personal archives with fiction, focusing on Afro-Caribbean oral traditions and the practices of Black women’s literary, philosophical, political and artistic endeavors. Massiel has published three short stories, “El Cazador de Ciguapas” (2014), “El Arte de La Pesca” (2016), and “El Simulacro” (2017). Her work can also be found in Kalfou.
