WLP Scholar Series: Gülşah Taşkın and ‘A Digital Model for Ottoman Textual Studies’

November 4, 2021 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm EDT

Join Writing, Literature and Publishing for a Scholar Series event, “A Digital Model for Ottoman Textual Studies: The Baki Project,” with Gülşah Taşkın, assistant professor in the Department of Turkish Language and Literature at Boğaziçi University.

The worldwide development of digital tools has resulted in dramatic changes in the technologies of manuscript transcription, edition, and publication. However, contemporary Ottoman textual studies in Turkey are limited to the application of outdated tools and methods. As a response to these issues,Taşkın and her team have designed an experimental project, The Baki Project, which is a long-term digital humanities project exploring new approaches to Ottoman manuscript studies.

This presentation aims to explore, through the example of The Baki Project, how digital technologies can be employed in Ottoman textual studies, what sort of benefits these technologies would offer, and what are the main challenges of managing a large scale digital research and publication project.

Registration is required by the end of the day on Wednesday, November 3. Register on Eventbrite.
