F-1 Optional Practical Training (OPT): How to Apply

October 21 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Optional Practical Training (OPT) is US work permission for students in F-1 immigration status. Applications for OPT are approved by USCIS for up to 12 months of work in your major field of study. Students commonly use OPT to gain practical work experience in the US after graduation.
This workshop will cover key information about applying for OPT, including:
OPT eligibility
When to apply
Completing the Form I-765
Preparing your application for mailing
Legal responsibilities during OPT
There are a few changes to the process this fall – including a new form and new fee, so make sure to attend a session so you are well prepared to apply.
For December 2020 graduates, the window to submit an OPT application begins Thursday October 1, 2020. You’ll want to apply early as applications can take 3 months or longer for approval.
