Deafness and Diversity: Opportunities and Disparities in Healthcare

October 3 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm EDT

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at Emerson College is pleased to announce the 2024 Speech and Hearing Foundation of MA lecture by Dr. Christopher Moreland, professor of internal medicine; associate program director, internal medicine residency; and interim chief of the division of hospital medicine at Dell Medical School.

Deaf and hard of hearing (DHH) people are an underserved minority in healthcare. Rapidly evolving research over the past decade has allowed us to better describe the DHH community’s healthcare experiences. Concurrently, we have also deepened our understanding of how to narrow those disparities through individual, systems, and workforce adaptations, including diversifying our healthcare workforce. This talk will touch on each of these domains, focusing on how to drive change toward healthcare equity.
