A Book Club Won’t Save Us: ‘Are Prisons Obsolete?’

March 2, 2021 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm EST

A Book Club Won’t Save Us (ABWSU) offers the Emerson community a four- or five-week series to “study, act, reflect, repeat.” The second series of the Spring semester will center around Are Prisons Obsolete? by Angela Y. Davis.

Together we can build our praxis community and deepen our discussions. Participants can increase awareness and broaden their knowledge base of societal norms linked to systemic oppression; develop critical thinking muscles to integrate dissonant themes into their practice; build a repertoire of reflective practices; and leave motivated to engage in principled struggle.

ABWSU is open to all faculty, staff, administration, and graduate students. The group will meet virtually Tuesdays, February 23-March 16. To participate sign up online.

The book and ebook are available through the Iwasaki Library, or may be ordered online, including at Porter Square Books in Cambridge or Harriett’s Bookshop in Philadelphia.
