Emerson360: Community Climate Survey for Students Launching October 31

Dear Campus Community,

Creating a living, learning, and working environment in which students and other community members can thrive is one of Emerson’s primary responsibilities. We believe that Emerson should be a supportive, welcoming, and safe campus. The Emerson360: Community Climate Survey provides students with an opportunity to share their perceptions of the Emerson experience in a confidential setting. On Wednesday, October 31, 2018, we will launch our second community climate survey for students. The first student survey was conducted during the Fall 2014 semester.

Out of respect for students who expressed their concerns about some aspects of campus climate using the power of their voices at the October 2017 Faculty Assembly meeting, the Fall 2017 student portion of the Emerson360: Community Climate Survey was postponed.  Now, as we finish the analysis and reporting of the 2017 Faculty and Staff Emerson360: Community Climate Survey, we think it is critically important to seek out students’ perceptions about aspects of campus climate that were not specifically addressed in the October 2017 student demonstrations. In order to create an opportunity for students to share their thoughts on these important issues, we will be launching the student component of Emerson360. While we agree that “institutional surveys will not save students,” we believe these data can serve as a powerful tool in support of student voice and as a catalyst for institutional change.

ModernThink, the College’s survey provider, will administer the Emerson360: Community Climate Survey. The survey focuses on aspects of Emerson’s overall climate and, more specifically, students’ understanding of power-based interpersonal violence, the prevalence of power-based interpersonal violence among students, and students’ knowledge of campus resources. The questionnaire takes about 20 minutes to complete and participation is voluntary. Students may choose to skip questions or stop responding at any point.

We value the voices of our students and hope they will participate in the Emerson360: Community Climate Survey. If you have questions or would like to share feedback about the survey, please connect with Samantha Ivery at sjc@emerson.edu or 617-824-8528. Thank you in advance for your time.

Sincerely,

Samantha M. Ivery
