Emerson College’s WERS Celebrates Local Music, Local Business, and Local Radio with 617 Day

88.9 WERS, New England’s first and oldest non-commercial radio station, broadcast from Emerson College, will hold its third annual 617 Day celebration of Massachusetts-based artists on Thursday, June 17, 2021. The celebration will be hosted by WERS Morning Show host George Knight and WERS Afternoon Show host Phil Jones who will be joined by more than a dozen local artists sitting in as guest DJs throughout the day highlighting their favorite songs by fellow local artists.

Guest DJs includelocal mainstays Buffalo Tom, Juliana Hatfield, and Dispatch; recent breakouts Air Traffic Controller, Anjimile, and Pronoun; and rising stars Kaiti Jones, Slothrust, and Future Teens. WERS will also welcome local artist and Emerson College Alum, Eric Hutchinson, who will serve as a guest DJ and introduce his favorite song by a local musician.

As it has for more than 70 years, WERS is proud to continue supporting local artists who are the heart and soul of our community. “For the last year, safety concerns dictated a more muted soundtrack in our city and in others around the world as we grappled with truly historic circumstances,” Howard “D” Simpson, Interim General Manager said. “Ever resilient, our community of musicians continued to provide hope through intimate virtual events. This 617 Day begins healing from this period by remembering all that we’ve been through and celebrating all that we are.”
