Notable celebrity alumni will congratulate graduates, EVVY nominees

Emerson College launches its Emerson 2020 Celebration website to honor graduates of the Class of 2020 on Monday, May 25, with more than 800 celebratory submissions and congratulatory messages from students, families, alumni, faculty, and staff, including photos, videos, audio submissions, and text.
Among the video submissions are well wishes from several well-known alumni and celebrities in the entertainment industry, including actors Jennifer Coolidge, Henry Winkler, comedians Jay Leno, Bill Burr, and Steven Wright, screenwriter Adele Lim (Crazy Rich Asians), actress Chrystee Pharris (Scrubs), and Friends executive producer Kevin Bright, among others.
Separately, The EVVY awards, known as the nation’s largest student-run, multi-camera, live award show, will be virtual this year and livestreamed on Friday, May 29, at 8:00 p.m. via the EVVYs website. Notable Emerson alumni will participate in this Emerson tradition, now in its 39th year, presenting the awards to students who will accept them remotely. Among those participating in the award show are TV legend Norman Lear (All in the Family, The Jeffersons), actress Andrea Martin (SCTV, Great News), TV personality Maria Menounos, Will & Grace producer Max Mutchnick, comedian Dennis Leary, makeup entrepreneur Bobbi Brown, and more.
This year, the EVVYs garnered more than 100 nominees for awards in Journalism, Theater, Post Production and Audio, Communications and Marketing, Performance, Writing, Television, and Film. They can be viewed at evvyawards.org.
In addition to these awards, a Student Award of Distinction and Alumni Award of Distinction are presented. This year’s recipient of the student award is Theatre BFA major Yueming (Alison) Qu and the alumni recipient is comic book and television writer and producer Keto Shimizu ’07.
