Emerson College’s platform for presenting contemporary visual art, Emerson Contemporary, presents “Sending Light,”;an exhibition featuring digital art created by members of the Emerson community—students, faculty, alumni and staff—showcased in the windows of the Media Art Gallery at 25 Avery Street in Boston. “Sending Light” runs through May 31 and is available to view anytime between 6:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. each night.
The exhibition is part of a larger initiative, Light Windows, a worldwide exhibition of light art initiated by The Center for the Holographic Arts, a nonprofit organization based in New York City that supports engagement with emergent visual art.
The global initiative brings light art to neighborhoods in an effort to honor the essential workers of the COVID-19 pandemic and provide artists with new exhibition opportunities while many galleries and museums are closed.
The works displayed at Emerson Contemporary are rear projected on two hanging screens installed in the gallery windows and on a digital signage monitor. Selected artists include students Philip Alvy, Bao, Nico Carbini, Jacques Denault, Josh Gorman, Pallas Hayes, Irka Perez, Jennifer Pipp, Oliver Schaffer, Sara Beth Videtto, and Mark Yirrell. View student work. Faculty artists include Visual and Media Arts faculty members Janeann Dill, Paul Turano, and Sabine Bou Jaoude. Staff members include Jeremy Heflin, Jennifer Pipp, and Jane Powers. The exhibition is curated by Dr. Leonie Bradbury—Emerson’s Foster Chair of Art Theory and Practice and Distinguished Curator-in-Residence.
