Podcast transcript

A new set of Emerson polls finds women are breaking for the Democratic candidates for US Senate in New Mexico, New Jersey and Michigan, giving the three Democratic incumbents leads in their re-election campaigns.

The poll also finds the Democrats are in position to reclaim the Governorships in both Michigan and New Mexico. In Michigan, Democrat Gretchen Whitmore leads 57% to 36% among women, while her Republican opponent Bill Schuette leads with males 47% to 46%.

A key swing district is New Mexico’s 2nd District, where in 2016 Trump outperformed both McCain’s 2008 and Romney’s 2012 performance with a 10 point margin of victory in the district. The current poll has the race tied between Democrat Xochitl Torres Small at 47% and Yvette Herrell (R) at 47%.
